SubscriberDear All
I started my drilling simulation but when it goes upto 17% to 20%, it is showing time step is too small. I have also watched ansys video mentioning about "Time Step Integration" and learn how to calculate total number of steps. But I don't know where to enter that value as in Ansys it is showing 3 types of time i.e. initial time step, minimum time step, and maximum time step.
Please help me.
Thanks in advance

Ansys EmployeeThe explanation of initial time step, minimum time step, and maximum time step can be found from ANSYS Help. See attached picture below.
Usually we suggest user to keep it as Program Controlled.
Since you are simulating drilling process, elements may get distorted during the process. The distorted elements will introduce small time step that could lead to time step too small error.
Thus, you need to make sure the Erosion Controls under Analysis Settings is on. The material model should include failure criterion as well so the material strength will not be over-predicted.

SubscriberHi I am trying to do a tension test on a dog bone specimen with the material being polyurethane. I keep encountering this error of time step being too small. The same model works well with steel1006. Please let me know what parameter is called as time step and in the theory of explicit dynamics which parameter is time?
