“Error: arg(2nd) out of range in substring”, when generating mesh

      Hi all,

During workflow of a watertight geometry, when generating mesh, I recieve:

Error: arg(2nd) out of range in substring

      Error Object: 7

I don't know what this means, and I haven't been able to find further documentation for troubleshooting. I have made sure the length of the part and surface names are longer than 4 characters and do not incude special characters.

      Please help!

      To be more specific:

      • I have no issues generating surface mesh during tutorials such as ‘high-speed train geometry’. I’ve also tried generating a cube directly in SpaceClaim, which I was able to mesh in Fluent.
      • The part I am trying to mesh was drawn in Inventor and imported to SpaceClaim as a .stp file. From there it is saved as an .sdoc file, so I don’t really see that the original file type should matter.

I’m new to Ansys so any help is greatly appreciated!

      Hello,

Where in the Watertight Geometry workflow are you getting this error?

Maybe there was an issue in translating the original geometry to SpaceClaim. Can you do a Geometry Check in SpaceClaim to ensure that there are no errors with the model?

      Dear Federico,

Thanks very much for your advice. Geometry Check uncovered the problem: there was, by coincidence, a curved edge which led to a zero thickness at one point. After fixing this, no more problems.

      Thanks!

Thanks for your confirmation. Glad it helped :)
