I am working on a project to simulate possible emissions emitting from the tank. I would like to track the emission particles to determine how far they travel and whether or not they will hit the ground. This is a 3D simulation and I understand how to add the wind flow, but do not know how I would go about adding emissions coming from the tank. Is this even possible in Fluent? Do you know of any Forums or videos with a similar task?Â
I attached a picture below of the tanks, this is the SpaceClaim geometry of the tanks. Eventually, I would like to add towers/flares to have more details. The red is where I would like the emission to release while the blue is the wind direction.
I am very new to ANSYS and this is my first project. I would appreciate any guidance you could give me!

That looks like a tank farm, possibly liquid/dense gas given the bunds? If so you may want to look up species as opposed to particles.Â
For the rest, you'll want to look up buoyancy (also operating density - I've posted about it a few times), atmospheric boundary layer and find a big computer. You're potentially looking at needing a domain that's 100s of metres across, the last few I did were about 2km across, 2km long and 500m or so high: there were a few more bits of equipment though......Â

Thank you Rob for your advice and help! I will keep looking through the forums until I find something similar so that I can learn how to draw the floating roof and have emissions come through. In this geometry, I just drew a larger tank on the outside and than drew a smaller inner tank with a 1' gap all the way aroud. I will try to learn how to improve this design to make it an actual floating roof. Also, I will creat a larger domain. I alraeady have the buildings/plant drawn, but have them hidden until I can figure out how the software works. Again, thank you for helping!

Do you really want to include a floating roof and 1" gap in a domain that's several hundred metres across? Consider which part of the system you're interested in, and then think about the cell count that will be needed. You may want to review source terms as an alternative to add vapour to the domain.Â

Good Afternoon Rob,Â
I am mostly interested in modeling how far and what direction chemicals would travel if there was an emission leak. I received data from a local chemical plant that includes the average lb/year of chemical release from these tanks that I would like to incorporate into the model. I was researching the difference between Species transport and discrete particle tracking and feel like particle tracking would work better for this case, do you agree? Can particles be tracked in species transport or is that primarily for mixture of chemicals in tanks? I am sorry for all the questions, I have not been able to find a tutorial of previous forum for a similar product to learn how to use the software. I appreciate any help and guidance you can provide. Thank You!

Looking at the two options:
- DPM models discrete particles (droplet/bubbles/particles) as they travel through a domain. They don't diffuse.Â
- Species diffuses, and travels with the bulk mixture.Â
So, for a vapour leak into air, which is most suitable?
