Actually I run DL2020R2.5 on a DELL Precision 7920 with Quadro P5000 and the attached (simple) case makes DL freeze after 3 to 13 design points and I have to kill the process. Latest graphics drivers are installed. Does anybody else use this configuration and run into similar problems?

Can you please share the boundary conditions used for this? The file you have shared does not have the boundary conditions in it.

I will try it on my end (Dell Precision 7740, with NVIDIA Quadro RTX 5000), and see if I face the same issues. If I do, I will highlight it to the concerned people and will let you know.

this is odd. If I open the above file, all boundary conditions are set. Probably you can recreate the case with the attached picture. The two loads are attached to the rear wall of the box, the fixed support is on the front side of the box. There is a pull direction in z. Combine both load cases for the optimization.

I tried doing this with force on the face where the moment was applied, and it is solving for me with no issue as mentioned by you. There has been a similar query regarding issues to do topology optimization for customers using Quadro P5000, I  will get in touch with the developers/experts aware of this behaviour and I will get back to you with the information as soon as possible.

Charudatta Bandgar , remote force on the same face as the moment from the first load case, like you created. I replaced my P5000 with a P4000 and faced the same issues. My colleague has a DELL Precision 7810 with a Quadro M4000 and the case runs without any problems.

I am looking into this, I will file a bug report, if it is due some issue with NVIDIA P series graphics cards in general and bring it to developers' notice.

Hello Healme ,

Even with P5200, we were not able to recreate this issue. Hence I have filed a bug report (BUG 333464) since it could be due to some issue with P5000 and P4000 as observed by you and some other customers. 

I will get back to you with any information I can get related to the bug from the developers.

Hello Charudatta Bandgar , do you think it's worth a try to switch Windows10 from German to English and install Discovery Live in English again?

Let me check if the other customer experiencing a similar issue is also using it in German that will clear your hunch.

You can find the RHSolver*.txt and RHApplication*.txt log files saved under ~AppDataRoamingSpaceClaimLog Files folder.

I just installed driver version 452.39 but the behavior of the model was unchanged and DL2020R2.5 gets stuck after a few iterations.

Developers were able to get 91 iterations with P5000, they are still investigating if it is some other issue. I will let you know if I get any other information.

Charudatta Bandgar We just tested an installation on a DELL Precision Tower 7810 with a NVIDIA Quadro M4000 and it worked fine. So it is not due to our security settings. Rather I suspect a bug in the BIOS of my Precision 7920, which does not handle the communication to the graphics card correctly. We have consulted DELL-support.

Charudatta Bandgar Replacing the graphics card of the same type did not bring any improvement either. Next, we will install the P5000 into the Precision 7810, where at least the M4000 worked.

Charudatta Bandgar Does not work, there are too few power connections. In the meantime we have replaced the graphics card and the motherboard of my computer. That did not help either.

Should hyperthreading be enabled or disabled to run Discovery Live? Are there any known problems with hyperthreading turned off? Are there any influences during the installation procedure when hyperthreading is turned off?

We got the case up and running on a similar machine. Graphics card P5000 with driver version 442.50. I install this driver on the problematic machine.

We set up my problematic machine completely with a naked installation of Windows 10 and then installed DL2020R2. Now it works, so it's not the hardware. It must be some process from our standard company configuration that makes DL stutter. We are now constantly adding applications to find out which process is the problematic one.

Even if DL works now, I still notice a strange behavior. When I click on Pause during optimization, it still runs. The play button is visible, but keeps blinking until the target is reached.

All these observations are new and haven't been experienced earlier. I will go ahead and inform it to the developers.

After we completely rebuilt my machine, DL2020R2.5 is now running flawlessly. Although the odyssey has now come to an end, we do not know exactly what caused the malfunction. I suspect that the installation of several subscription versions interfered with each other, but I could not trace this.
From my point of view, we can now close this thread and wish everyone a good start to the new year.
