difference between nodal displacement and displacement

What is the difference between nodal displacement and displacement if we want to have a fixed boundary condition at the end of a beam?

      Hi

A fixed support on a beam should give a DX=DY=DZ=ROTX=ROTT=ROTZ =0, so all degrees of freedom for a beam node equal 0.

With nodal displacements you can set the the translational degrees of freedom (DX,DY,DZ) as needed to a value (DX=value,...).

      Hope this explains everything

Thank for your reply. My main question is about the difference between applying displacement to a node and to a vertex. For example, if I want to fix the translational degrees of freedom (DX,DY,DZ), If I choose "nodal displacement" Ansys applies that to a node. If I choose a "displacement", Ansys applies it to a vertex. Is the resulting boundary condition the same?
      Thanks

Yes, if you apply the same values for the translation dof then it is the same (where there is a vertex, there is a node, and hence we apply it the same way - in the ds.dat you will see the D, command which applies that).
