I want to use the DEM collision option in the DPM model. Suppose that the particles that are created are named "anthracite". When you activate DEM collision, you must determine collision partnes right? There is typically particle-wall and particle-particle collision. In setting the collision partners, there are two options to choose from: one is anthracite-anthracite and other anthracite-alluminium. I want to specify the conditions for wall impact of particles. When I go to boundary conditions and to the wall-DPM, I can determine the collision partner of the wall as anthracite, but I can not see any option to set the properties of the collison of particles and wall.

Thank you for your reply. The wall is just a cylinder surrounded by the fluid zone. So, I only have fluid zone here. Is it possible to intriduce the wall in the fluent as aluminium and then use the DEM boundary condition for Aluminium-Anthracite? Or, should I get back to meshing step and define the cylinder as a solid zone? Thanks.

Forum ModeratorThe outer skin of a fluid region must be bounded, so inlet, outlet, wall etc. Assuming there's a wall the default material is aluminium. Which you've got the collision pair for: hence my question.Â
The material choice only really matters if you have heat transfer, or DEM collisions.Â

Depending on what you're trying to do, you may want to look at Ansys Rocky. Fluent's DEM code is based on the DPM model, whereas Rocky is a full DEM solver which connects into Fluent for the flow solution. I'm not sure what the status is on Rocky in Student or the other academic licences.Â
