Defining young’s modulus twice in material properties directly or indirectly

      Hello,

I have to define a non-linear material model. Let us say I defined young modulus as a temperature-dependent property. Also, temperature-dependent stress-strain value under multilinear isotropic hardening. This can also give us young's modulus values Then which young's modulus will Ansys workbench considers.

      Thanks in advance

      Hi Praveen95,

You can define a global temperature or different temperature to each individual part, then the solver will determine young's modulus based on the temperature. If the temperature lies between two values you provide, then the solver will do interpolation to find the young's modulus.

This figure shows, 1st type of young's modulus obtained directly by stress-strain relationJust an example of 2nd type where stress-strain diagram gives youngs modulus and we have many stress strain diagrams for many temperatures and it provides young's modulus at different temperatures

      Dear Wenlong,

      Thanks for your reply.

I think I need to be more clear.

Yeah, we can define globally as well as temperature-dependent. But in my case it is temperature-dependent with soo many temperatures to be considered. But my problem is as below.

we can define young's modulus either by its direct definition or indirectly Ansys taking it from the stress-strain diagram. If it exactly gets the temperature-dependent young's modulus from any of the definitions then Ansys goes for it as it is, but if the value is different in both the cases, then Ansys does interpolation between these values? is it correct?

      Thanks in advance

      Hi Praveen,

When you say stress-strain diagram, do you mean the plastic strain -stress diagram you showed here? In this case, what will be calculated is the tangent modulus, which will not conflict with Young's modulus. And for the same material model, I don't think you can define Young's modulus at two places (one by directly provide E, the other by providing stress-strain curve). Please let me know if this is not clear.

      Wenlong

      Dear Wenlong,

Yea you are right. we define plastic stress-strain values in Multilinear kinematic hardening model and young's modulus is defined separately.

      Thanks for your suggestion
