Defining custom material based on ASME BPVC Div. 2

      Hi!

I'm new to Ansys, and i'm in the process of defining a new material in Workbench (Engineering Data)

When defining a new metal, should i base all input on true stress/strain? or use engineering stress/strain?

Should the "Tensile Yield Strength" be based on the 0.2% offset?

      Thank you!

      Regards
      Siggi

Hi Sigurd, You should use plastic strain versus true stress to define the hardening (stress-strain) curve of your metal. Initial yield stress (0.2% rule) and ultimate tensile strength are commonly defined based on engineering stress.
