SubscriberGreetings,
I need some assistance in generating a 2D surface from STL. I extracted the STL from a 2D machining simulation in explicit dynamics. But I am unable to convert it to a surface body. Kindly assist. below is the image of the STL. I have also attached the STL file.
I also used the direct way of exporting the deformed geomtery as below (Linked the solution of model and exported geometry as pmdb file). But it results in very distorted surface and not possible to manipulate in any way.Â
Kindly assist. I am using ANSYS 2019R2
Â
Gratitude for the support.

SubscriberGreetings,Â
For some reason the 'attach' option is not working. I can share the STL file if anyone wants to give a try.Â

SubscriberGreetings Ibrahim,
Put your STL file into a ZIP file. ZIP files are permitted for attachment, STL files are not permitted.

Peter

SubscriberI looked at the STL file. It is a big mess. I suggest you just use the STL as a background image and sketch new geometry over that image.

SubscriberHi.. Thank you Peter for your quick reply. I actually have done the same in Design Modeler, sketched over it but the result was not very accurate and gave me many errors. Maybe will have to try it in solid edge or other CAD.Â
Peter, how did you come to the conclusion that the STL file is 'messed up'? I directly exported it from the deformed geometry in explicit dynamics.Â

SubscriberThere are multiple facets over the same element.
Maybe the code for STL export only works for 3D elements and it fails spectacularly for 2D bodies.
