Connection between two elements

      Hello!

In Workbench, is there anyway to model the connection between two elements as pinned connection (All moments are released, only tension or compression will be transferred between two elements), in other words, apply a pinned joint to two line bodies?

In default, the fixed connection (rigid connection) is applied.

      Thanks!

      Use beam end release.

Insert a connection, then right click on it and insert end release (release dof as needed).

Image below the top beam is pinned with 2 end releases (about Z) so it is moment free at the connection with the columns.

Assuming there are 3 separate line bodies in the example structure above, then how can we connect the columns to the horziontal line body, if we want to model the pinned connection? If we use end release, are we supposed to put the end release on only the horizontal line body's vertices, or we should also take into account the vertices of the columns as well (where the columns connect with the horizontal line body)?n

nIf that was 3 separate line bodies, they would have to be using shared topology or have a Mesh Merge so that there was a single node at each corner that both beams were using. Without the End Release, that connection behaves like a welded connection. With End Release on the horizontal beam, that changes it to a pinned connection if the correct DOF is chosen.nOnly one of the two beams sharing a node needs an end release.n

Thanks for your messages here, they helped me add an end release to my beam model. However, I note that the help file says I cannot apply a fixed boundary condition at the vertex with the end release. Is there a way I can fix the end of the beam with the end release, or would I need to extend the beam slightly so I have a separate point to apply the fixed boundary condition?nThanks for your help!n

Hey guys as Peteroznewman said I have 3 lines body to connect and I want the 3 rotational DOF. I tried using shared topology then use end release but it doesn't seem to work. What is the solution to this problem please?
