compression only

      Hi everyone,

I would to know how to apply compression only support in this plate. I think that I should apply compression only in the hole, the force in one of the two directions and in the other I should apply a fixed support or displacement with x=0, y=free and z=free (in 3D case). But I'm not sure about all this. Can you help me please.

Is this a 3D model? Is so, pick the cylindrical face of the hole and apply a compression only support. Don't apply the force F on the right, that will be taken care of by the compression only support. Do apply the force on the left.  It might turn out that the solver can obtain a solution by using weak springs to prevent a "pivot error" that can occur on an insufficiently constrained model.

You could make this model fully constrained by making it a 2D plane stress model and slicing it in half horizontally.

I did in 2D stress plane with thickness (4mm), and I applied symmetry horizontally. but I got that warning.

You can ignore the warning. You got a good result.

You should add a Mesh Sizing control to the two circular edges, and make the elements half the size of the default size or set the number of divisions to 36.

Note that 1 N on a half model means 2 N on the full model.

What will be the difference if I apply  bearing load at the hole and displacement x=0 en the left edge.  Because I have done this and I have different results
