Can not launch CML compiler in Linux

      Hello, I want to use CML compiler in RHEL 8.8, other functions such as FDTDs are fine, but when I click new project in Ansys optics launcher, it says failed to launch gnome-terminal, but windows it's fine. Even if I launch CML compiler in terminal, the GUI will open but can not deploy lumfoundry files, may I ask how to solve this problem? Thanks!

      Please check if you hav e CML license.

      If you have windows machine, try to test if it works there. We have customers using Linux without problem.

      If the problem still exists, please give us the linux OS version information.

        Hi Guilin, thanks for your response, I do have CML license, it runs well on windows, just doesn't work on linux, I have tried RHEL 8.8 and centOS 7, same problem, when I click new project in Ansys optics launcher, it says failed to launch gnome-terminal, but windows it's fine. Even if I launch CML compiler in terminal, the GUI will open but can not deploy lumfoundry files.

        Maybe there are some packages are missing? Thanks!

      You may try to use the terminal to run the “cmlc” command. Note that you will need to setup the path in the bashrc file. This is talked about in this page: https://optics.ansys.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037135654-System-requirements-and-installation

      Usually CML works fine for Linux system.

      @Chengkuan Gao,

      To resolve this issue. Add the Lumerical install path into your PATH.
      >>Setting environment variable in Linux – Ansys Optics

      Otherwise, run “cmlc” directly from the Terminal and not from the Launcher.
      >>Running the Ansys Lumerical CAD/IDE – Ansys Optics

      Check out the CML compiler documentation for information on how to use this tool. Requires CMLC license and access to the Ansys Optics.
