SubscriberI analyze a steel structure  with ansys apdl.
In this structure, there is the possibility of cracking and opening it.
The initial crack path is unknown, And the material enters the nonlinear stage.
For fracture analysis in ansys apdl the following method are available.
XFEM-Based Crack Analysis and Crack-Growth Simulation
But the above method may not work for this reason.
How should I do this modeling in ansys apdl?
Can Ansys apdl solve this problem?

Ansys EmployeeHi,
The crack growth tools (either XFEM or SMART) are only applicable to linear, elastic materials. Note: this limitation refers to the far-field behavior, not the behavior at the crack tip.
If the far-field behavior is non-linear, you could use CINT to calculate a Jint and then asses crack-growth using Jint in hand calculations. The fracture tools cannot automate the process.

SubscriberCan I use the Smart crack Growth method in ansys apdl?
Or this method exists only in Workbench.

Ansys EmployeeYes, you can use it in MAPDL. Please see this section.
