SubscriberI have a problem in static structural.
I applied Bonded Contact between shell body and solid body, but errors occur.
When I checked the mode shape, they penetrated each other.
Let me show pictures below.Â
Â
There are two parts. one is shell body(Midsurface) and another is solid body.
shell body is upper part(with red face).
I applied bonded contact like below.
Â
Because the shell body is midsurface, there is gap(thickness/2).
Both of materials are Structural Steel.
I tried under procedures.
- Program controlled
- MPC(radius 1mm ~ 1000mm)
- BEAM
But 1, 2, 3 didn't work like picture below.
The contact in picture above is contact 4.
And also I set the variable contactAllowEmpty=1, but it didn't work.
Another approach was 'Node Merge' between faces, but the result was not what I indeed.
In this situation, what should I do?
How can I apply bonded contact to them? Is there any other way:?

Ansys EmployeeIn details of contact region, you can set yes for "shell thickness effect" to account for the gap
Also increase the pinball radius in details of contact. You can set this to a value larger than the gap

SubscriberThank you for your answer!
I've already changed 'shell thickness effect : ON', but result was same...
And I increased pinball radius 1mm ~ 1000mm(10 times thickness), but result was same.
Is there any way?Â
