SubscriberHi everyone,
I am trying to run a parametric study on a Pin-Fin Heat Sink in Ansys Workbench 2024 R1 (Fluid Flow Fluent system). My goal is to vary the Fin Angle and Fin Count as input parameters.
I am using SpaceClaim for geometry and Ansys Meshing, but I am hitting two major roadblocks when the parameters update.
1. The "Overlapping Geometry" Error I have a solid Heat Sink (Pin Fins) inside a fluid Enclosure.
In SpaceClaim, I subtract the fins from the fluid domain to create the mesh interface.
However, when I change the Fin Angle parameter in Workbench, the geometry updates, but the boolean subtraction does not seem to "refresh" correctly.
The new rotated fins clash with the old fluid voids, leading to an "Overlapping Geometry" error in Ansys Meshing, preventing the mesh from generating.
Question: How do I ensure the boolean subtraction (Fluid minus Solid) re-calculates automatically for every design point without me having to manually open SpaceClaim every time?
2. Named Selections Breaking (Face IDs Changing) Because the geometry is re-drawn at new angles, the Face IDs change, causing my manual Named Selections (Inlet, Outlet, Fin_Walls) to fail or become empty.
I attempted to use Worksheet Named Selections to select faces by criteria (e.g.,
Location YorSize). While this works for simple things, I am struggling to robustly distinguish the "Base Plate Top Floor" (the flat face between fins) from the "Side Walls" of the base plate, since they are close in proximity.
Question: Is there a standard Worksheet recipe or a better method (maybe SpaceClaim Groups?) to robustly tag these specific faces so they survive a topology change?
Current Workflow:
SpaceClaim: Create Fins + Enclosure.
Workbench: Define Parameters (Angle).
Meshing: Standard meshing with Named Selections.
Any advice on the correct workflow for parametric geometry updates involving boolean operations would be greatly appreciated!
