March 1, 2021 at 6:53 amQuickLearnerSubscriberHello.nI had created belt drive mechanism (belt and pulley) assembly in solidworks, I had imported the model to ANSYS. I was looking for a way to vary the belt tension on the pulley and analyze the effect of the belt tension on the pulleys velocity and its health. Can this be done in ANSYS?n I am relatively new to ANSYS and hence I do not have much knowledge on the capability of ANSYS. Any help would be great. Thanks. n

March 2, 2021 at 6:45 am1shanAnsys Employee,nYou could definitely do a belt pulley simulation in ANSYS using transient structural analysis. Here is a tutorial that you could follow . The belt tension could be varied by displacing one pulley with respect to the other. You could use a displacement constraint to do this.nnRegards,nIshan.n

Thank you Ishan. But is it possible to visualize the effects of change in belt tension such as decreased speed of rotation of the pulleys or change in the frictional force between pullet and belt etc. Would be great if you could throw some light on these aspects. n -

March 3, 2021 at 4:48 am1shanAnsys Employee,nYes indeed. You could insert a contact tool to monitor the effect of increased tension, like the contact pressure/frictional force etc. You could also monitor the angular speed, moments at joints using joint probes. If you are a beginner I suggest you could take some of these free course(especially related to contact and rigid dynamics) which will give you a good idea about how to setup the analysis.nRegards,nIshan.n
