Battery Pack cooling

This year we performed some CFD simulations of out Battery Pack.

Four simulation cases were performed, each representing a relevant operating condition for the battery system. The simulations were carried out using ANSYS Fluent, with boundary conditions derived from the expected load cycles during endurance and peak power demand.

      Key parameters considered:

      -        Initial battery temperature.

      -        Heat generation rate (based on estimated cell losses at peak current).

      -        Cooling strategy.

      -        Environmental conditions.

While the results confirm compliance, several challenges were noted during the simulations:

      • Model assumptions: Certain simplifications (homogeneous material properties, uniform heat generation) may not capture localized hotspots.
      • Cooling airflow dependency: The efficiency of the system strongly relies on the airflow provided by the aerodynamic design. Any variation in duct geometry or blockage could reduce effectiveness.
