Bandstructure analysis, Hexagonal Photonic crystal

      Hello Ansys team,

I am simulating bandstructure varing the a and r value for the hexagonal Photonic crystal for dipole source wavelength to be 1500nm. In order to run the analysis I am using the same script as given in example.

       Error I am encountering:

As soon as I change the frequency to 193THz, error comes in the script bar that "Unable to allocate the data in given matrix.

      2. Also I want to know how to set up the Kx and Ky value for the 2D and 3D hexagonal lattice photonic crystal.

Kindly please help me to solve this problem.

      Thank you

      Hi Ankita,

1.The error is most likely because findresonances command wasn't able to find any resonances. This could be due to the modes not being excited strongly enough for them to clearly appear in the spectrum. You can add more dipole sources to see if that helps.

      2. For finding the kx and ky for a hexagonal points, you would first have to identify the key points of symmtery. I will see if I can find some references/textbooks that provide the parameters required for kx and ky calculation. In the mean time, by 3D photonic crystal, do you mean a hexagonal 3D arrangement of PCs or a 3D simulation of a planar hexagonal arrangement as shown here: Bandstructure of planar photonic crystal with a hexagonal lattice.
