Assistance with Simulation of Flexible Corrugated Rubber Sleeve

Hi All, I am currently working on a simulation involving a flexible corrugated rubber sleeve bending around a 4-inch pipe. I could use some advice on the following:

      • Best Approach:  What would be the optimal method to simulate this scenario considering the complexity introduced by the corrugation?
      • Mesh Considerations: Given the corrugated surfaces, I anticipate needing a large number of mesh nodes and elements. Any recommendations on managing or optimizing this?
      • Material Behavior:  The sleeve will undergo significant deflection. How can I best model the large deformations of the rubber?

Thank you in advance for your insights and guidance!

      Hi,
Ansys has a white paper published that might be related to your querry. It is about the finite element analysis of braided corrugated hoses, outlining the methodology for creating and analyzing three-dimensional finite element hose models.

      I hope this helps.

      Hi Harshvardhan,

Thank you for sending the link to the white paper!  It serves as an excellent design reference. 🙏

I'm currently looking for advice on the optimal setup in Ansys Mechanical to simulate the large deflection behavior of a flexible, highly featured rubber-like material as it wraps around a pipe or any other structure with significant curvature.

Any insights or guidance you could provide would be greatly appreciated!

      Best regards,

      Sam
