Assistance with Connecting SolidWorks Geometry to Ansys Electronics Desktop

      Hello,

I am trying to connect a SolidWorks geometry to Ansys Electronics Desktop but I am confused about some of the steps. I have searched for available resources, but I have not found many that specifically address Electronics Desktop. If there is any manual, documentation, or guidance available, it would be significantly helpful.

Here is what I have done so far:

      • Exported the geometry from SolidWorks in .IGS format.

      • Imported the .IGS geometry into Workbench.

      • Dragged another geometry block under Component Systems and connected it to the imported geometry using Share.

At this point, I am not sure what the next step should be. My goal is to link the SolidWorks geometry with Ansys Electronics Desktop so that any changes made in the SolidWorks file are automatically reflected in Electronics Desktop.

Thank you for your help in advance!

Hi, this is doable in Workbench. 1. Before creating the Design Modeler project, edit the WB settings for parameters.  In Tools > Options, find the settings for “Geometry Import”.  The default filter for Parameters is “DS”, which means that only parameters prefixed with “DS_” will be passed from DM to Maxwell 2. Import the geometry into Design Modeler in Workbench and utilize the power of Design Modeler to create/modify geometries with swept parameters, and use these geometries in Maxwell. 3. In Design Modeler, any parameters that you want to pass must contain the prefix defined in the WB Settings. 4. After you create the link on the WB schematic and refresh the Maxwell Geometry, the DM geometry will appear in the Object History Tree.  You can link multiple geometries and add any necessary Maxwell geometries (usually a Region).  Right-click on “Geometry” to find options for Properties, and to re-Generate the geometry.  Send Parameters and Generate after editing linked parameters. 5. Setup up DX analysis and run all Design Points in Workbench

      Notes:

After updating the linked DM parameters within Maxwell, choose “Send Parameters and Generate”. You will need to do this after defining the Maxwell parameters.
Linking parameters is only necessary to keep the solutions in the single Maxwell design (for animations, and Maxwell post-processing). If you pass parameters and save the fields
in Maxwell, it is not necessary to “export” the DX design points.
Running a DesignXplorer requires a DesignXplorer license.
Running any multiple design points requires an Ansoft Optimetrics license – only a single design point can be solved without an Optimetrics license.

Thank you for your detailed response. One follow-up question, if I want to do changes in SolidWork file and I want to reflect that in Ansys because right now I can do changes in Ansys and reflect that in SolidWork file. Can I do the other way around as well? Because I will be designing n number of design modifications and everytime then from SolidWorks I have to do the above mentioned process. Can’t we create a bi-directional connection etc?
