Hello,
I am running Fluid flow (Fluent) in Ansys Student 2020 R1 and keep getting an 'Application failed to connect' message when trying to open 'Results'.
If I try the same procedure in Fluent Flow (CFX), I cant even access 'Setup,' and get the exact same result as in this thread:
/forum/forums/topic/cfx-application-failed-to-connect-1/
with the exception that I am using the 2020 R1 version.
Â
I have followed the steps outlined in that thread, and got the same ineffective results.
Is there anything else I can try?

Try to set an system environment variable QT_OPENGL=desktop, hopeful it works.

So Ill put QT_OPENGL=desktop as the value, does it matter what I put as the variable name?

variable name: QT_OPENGL
variable value: desktop

The environment variable did not make any difference for Fluent or CFX.
Â
What exactly is the nature of the application not connecting at this particular point (Solution for Fluent and Setup for CFX)?
Is there an older version of this program that I might try as well?

make sure QT_OPENGL=desktop is set, try to open standalone CFD-Post 2020 R1 (Start > ANSYS 2020 R1 > CFD-Post 2020 R1)

Yes, the system variable is set.
I do not see a 'CFD-Post 2020 R1' in that location or anywhere else.

check ANSYS installation log and error, in "C:Program FilesANSYS Inc" by default.

It looks like the issue has been resolved:
Â
I checked in the ANSYS Inc folder, and eventually found a CFDpost.exe. When I tried to open it, it said that vcruntime140.dll was missing. I eventually reinstalled Microsoft Visual C++, went back to Fluent, and was able to open Setup.
Â
There were no error logs - I'm not sure how that dll file was missed. But Fluent seems to be working now.
Thanks for the assistance.

Good to know. The original issue is "keep getting an 'Application failed to connect' message when trying to open 'Results'."
Assuming this issue has been resolved as well?Â

Yes, I meant to say that I can open Results in Fluent now.
The original issue is resolved.
