I am using the student version of ANSYS Mechanical version 18.2. I am trying to solve a problem for a structure with ABS properties by using Static Structure module. However, the solution gets stuck at "Preparing the mathematical model" and there is no progress for a long time. It seems the solution is routing between "Preparing the mathematical model" and "Solving the mathematical model". This happens even when I am providing fixed support to the structure from one end and load at the other end. I have attached the image of my structure and the message that is popping up.
I have no idea what to do about this.If someone can help me figure this out this would be great! I need help!
Thank you

SubscriberI expect your simulation has multiple parts and contacts to hold them together. It can often happen that some part does not have the proper contact established.
One way to visually find the part that is not properly bonded or touching with frictional contact is to do a Modal analysis to find "loose" parts.
If all the parts stay attached, that is the first mode has a non-zero frequency, then there are other treatments to fix the problem, but I will need a closer look at your model. Follow this procedure to attach a .wbpz file to your reply.

SubscriberAlisezer,
ANSYS can solve the simplest model if it has no mistakes in it.
If your model has a mistake in it, downloading a fresh copy of the program isn't going to fix the mistake.
To verify the program is working, draw a simple cube, apply a Fixed Support at one end and a Force at the other end then Solve.
If that solves, we can move on to find the mistake in your model.

SubscriberI've already tried it with a simple cube. Same situation.

Ansys EmployeeAlisezer,
Please start a new discussion for your questions in the future. You can always link to this post (using Insert/edit link) if you have to.
In the picture you provided, there seems to be a message at the bottom. What is it? Can you click on it?
Also, right click on Static Structural and Open Solver Directory. What files do you see the? If you see a file.err or file.out open it in a text editor, scroll to the bottom and see what error messages are being written out there.
Regards,
Sandeep -

Ansys EmployeeHello,
Can you try switching off Distributed and resolve?
You can do that as shown below in Mechanical,
Tools --> Solver Process Settings --> Advanced --> Uncheck the "Distribute Solution if Possible" box. Then resolve.
Best regards,
Rohith

Ansys EmployeeHello Ali Sezer,
Thank you for letting us know that switching off Distributed is now allowing you to solve. But the solution is partial, because Distributed solution is preferred as it generally provides faster solution.
From our previous experience,
Sometimes, the antivirus, or firewall, or other programs may be blocking the Ansys process from starting. When this happens, tracking the task manager for .exe files starting during the solve can help in tracking down the issue.
Best regards,
Rohith

SubscriberHi, I am facing the same issue. I have another model that runs fine. Is there a setting that I changed unknowingly that's causing this issue?

SubscriberThanks Peter, the particular model was corrupt, other models worked fine, I had to set it up again.
