Ansys tunnel beam Spring model

Hi, While Analyzing Tunnel lining Beam-Spring model in Ansys Mechanical APDL. In the analysis two types of springs are provided. Normal springs are with compression capability only and tangential springs are acting in both tension and compression loadings. Large displacement has been considered in the analysis. This option in commercial software invokes geometric non-linearity, where updated geometry is considered in the subsequent iterations of finite element analysis. Considering geometric non-linearity will change the orientation of springs. Normal spring will not remain normal to the surface during the iterative finite element analysis. This will model the elastic bed stiffness incorrectly. Instead, analysis without geometric non-linearity shall be performed. As compression only spring elements requires non-linear analysis, number of time steps used in the analysis shall be greater than 1. What is your say on this? #ansys #tunnel
