after installing 2020r2 student version i am unable to open mechanical apdl and even workbench and keep on getting the license error message so can any one help me with this i am helpless and its mandatory for me to use only 2020 r2 student version

Please uninstall and then delete the entire C:\Program Files\Ansys Inc directory. Now redownload 2020R2 and reinstall.

Open a Windows command prompt and type "set" without quotes and post the full output.

If you completely uninstall and delete the C:\Program Files\Ansys Inc directory, then download the 2020R2.1 installer it will have a valid license to 1/31/22. When installed there should not be any license file in the C:\Program Files\Ansys Inc\Shared Files\Licensing directory, or reference to a file in that directory when running it. Please also try deleting your %APPDATA%\Ansys directory.

Correction, there WILL be a student.lic file in D:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\ANSYS Student\Shared Files\Licensing, with an expiration of 1/31/22.
