SubscriberQ3D Simulation for Misaligned Copper Conductors with Small Contact Areas: Unexpectedly Low Resistance Values
Hi everyone,
I'm facing an issue with Q3D while simulating the resistance of misaligned copper conductors. Here's my setup:
- Two vertical copper conductors, initially connected at the edge.
- One conductor is gradually moved horizontally to reduce the contact area.
The Problem:
Initially, Q3D produced resistance values close to my calculations. However, as the contact area decreased to the nm^2 range, the simulated resistance became much lower than expected. For instance, at a contact area where I expect over 20 Ohms, Q3D shows only 150 mOhm.
What I've Tried:
I've tried extensive mesh refinement, reaching sub-nm element sizes, but the issue persists.
My Question:
Is Q3D inherently limited in its ability to accurately calculate resistance for such small contact areas? Or am I missing a crucial setting or technique?
Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

It is unlikely for the solver to have any such inherent limitation. Additionally, the provided information isn't sufficient to provide any suggestions on your settings. May be providing more information (snaps of your set-up, model, etc.) might help in giving a better suggestion.
