Good afternoon,
One of our subscribers is trying to run an Ansys "Mechanical" job on a "Digital Alliance of Canada" node.
https://www.cmc.ca/other-ways-to-run-hpc-high-performance-compute-simulations/
This person is using the features in our Ansys licence file while running this job in batch mode (no GUI, command line only). We extend this courtesy to subscribers so that they can take advantage of the hardware available at these sites. We do not have one of the licence features that the job is requesting; this feature is called "meba".
Looking through the Product-to-Feature map published by Ansys staff in May, 2024, we read that "meba" is not part of the "Academic Research Mech/CFD" bundle, which is what we purchase from your company.
We contacted our Ansys academic sales representative, and have been told that this may be a commercial feature to which we are not entitled. What alternatives are available to our subscribers so that they can run Ansys "Mechanical" on what is basically a Linux terminal?
We are interested in this answer, so have submitted a case for both parties. Please advise.
Sincerely,
CMC Microsystems Technical Support staff

Hello!
Ansys Academic Research Mechanical and CFD contains the feature: ansys
This is Mechanical Enterprise license. You can change the Ansys Mechanical batch Job command to include or, if already set to meba, change the -p switch to:
-p ansys
This will tell the job to use the ANSYS Mechnical Enterprise feature(ansys) and not the Mechanical Solver feature(meba) -

It seems that your subscriber is encountering a licensing issue related to the “meba” feature while running an Ansys “Mechanical” job in batch mode on a node from the Digital Alliance of Canada. You’ve noted that “meba” is not part of the “Academic Research Mech/CFD” bundle, which your Crossed Roller Bearing has purchased.
