We have an exciting announcement about badges coming in May 2025. Until then, we will temporarily stop issuing new badges for course completions and certifications. However, all completions will be recorded and fulfilled after May 2025.

ANSYS Magnetostatic “Unknown Error”

Hello! I am currently having an issue with the Magnetostatic software. My partner and I are using it to create a magnetic circuit for a senior design project that uses a solenoid coil wrapped around an iron core. However, everything is parametrized properly and we still get the same error:

"The option of C on the MP command is either not available for this version of Ansys or the appropriate product was not selected for this sessions"

We are using the ANSYS student version and we have Workbench and the Electronics Desktop installed. If anyone has a remedy for this issue let us know!

hi, we would need more information to debug, can you share a screenshot of your design and the message window?

Hello! Thank you! Currently, we are out of the office for Easter, but we will be back soon. To provide more information regarding the issue, the magnetic circuit is a "C" shape, with the long middle part of the "C" being the solenoid coil, and the top and bottom of the "C" are the steel frames. There is an air gap between the two steel frames. We have created an enclosure around the magnetic circuit of air and assigned the other parameters to the coil. Also, we are working in ANSYS Workbench using the Magnetostatic solver.

I am not sure if this sufficient, but I hope it helps in some capacity. Could this error message have something to do with our ANSYS software packages? We were told that at our university we have the proper ANSYS packages, however, whenever we open Workbench, there are no options for Maxwell 2D or Maxwell 3D, which to my understanding is necessary for a simulation such as this. Thank you!

To integrate Maxwell in Workbench, windows start->Ansys EM Suite 20xx->"Modify integration with Ansys 20xx"

Yes, Magnetostatics can simulate that, you can also use Transient solver if there is motion.
