We have an exciting announcement about badges coming in May 2025. Until then, we will temporarily stop issuing new badges for course completions and certifications. However, all completions will be recorded and fulfilled after May 2025.

ANSYS LS-DYNA Bonded contact issue

      Hello,

I am doing a crash impact structure simulation, and I decided to bond the structure with the body as follow (with formulation MPC):

It seemed to work when I was using 12 layers of CFRP:

But when I wanted to test with 30 layers of CFRP for the front impact structure, the connection did not work..

      My questions are:

      1) What should I change? What have I done wrong?

      2) In my case, I would like to specify the car structure as a rigid body, but then I cannot bond a rigid body with my crash structure, is that normal?

      3) I wonder what is better for my application to setup the test, ANSYS Workbench like I am doing (with ACP Pre and Mechanical Model) or should I use LS-Prepost? What is the most precise?

      Thank you,

      Tristan

You can try the below options.

      1. Define the remote point between two connecting faces of two flexible bodies. It will generate constraints equations between the connecting surfaces
      2. If you want to connect the flexible part with the rigid part, you can use the below option

Hello, thank you for the answer, how to define a remote point?

Please see the below snapshot for your reference.

Please try it and let me know how it goes.

      Hello,

I tried to do that but I cannot select the bodies for the remote point, and since my front structure is a shell, I have selected the edges to define the remote point as follow

But when I launch the calculation with that, I have an error and I cannot run the simulation.

When I supress the remote point, I have the same problem as before with the bonded contact.

      What should I do?

      Thank you,

      Tristan

Please see if you have not defined other BCs like Rigid Body additional node option or bonded contact on this region.

I am hoping that the edges of the selected bodies will be flexible.

If one of the bodies is rigid, please use the Rigid Body additional node option instead of the remote point option.

For more information, please share a snapshot of the error.

Yes, the bodies are flexible, amd I have tried to supress the bonded contact on this region, but it is the same, the errors are

I have no rigid body but my remote points has a rigid behaviour.

      Thanks,

      Tristan

As per the error, multiple boundary conditions (BCs) are defined on a rigid body.

Please try to suppress other BCs and rerun the case. You can also describe your setup with multiple snapshots for better understanding.

      Regards,

      Raman Babu
