Hi,
I assume you're asking what will happen if you position your point mass in different vertical locations along the y-axis.
The answer to this is that it will introduce a moment that will be proportional to the distance in the Y-axis between the point mass and the slab.Regards,

If I have a small regular plate sitting on top of the beam, what should my y position be? Like 0?Â

If the thickness of the plate you mentioned is not significant, then the Y-axis distance between the Beam and the point mass can be zero.

To my understanding, the y-axis distance is the distance between the center of mass of the point mass to the surface of the beam, is that correct?Â
