SubscriberCan you please confirm whether it's possible to use STL geometry in ANSYS Discovery 2021 R1? I've tried to use STLs in structural as well as external flow without any success. Has this changed since Discovery Live was discontinued?

Forum ModeratorHello MotoCilino
Faceted body simulation will be possible in the next Discovery version i.e. 2022R1, in explore mode, and is not yet possible in refine mode. Even in Explore mode, only one body will be possible to simulate. More than one body is not yet supported.Â
Regards.

SubscriberHi,
How would be the best way to work around this, starting from .stl file format to a usable format for external fluid flow (refine stage) ?Â
Thanks!-

Forum ModeratorMarc Picrit Hello
You will need a solid in refine mode, there isn't any other way. Perhaps you can try convert to solid on the faceted geometry, with mostly tessellated, some of the facets will convert to smooth surface, while the intricate/curved surfaces will still stay tessellated. You can then proceed to use the solid geometry to do external fluid, but remember that the geometry will still be mostly tessellated.Â
You can use stl files in explore mode, but only one single surface, if you have an assembly of surface it will not work.
Regards.

SubscriberOk thanks,Â
I've tried to convert to solid body but I couldn't get the force probe working (this seems disabled for both faceted and solid bodies) and also impossible to make it work in refine mode... Is there another file format I should convert to or is there only a way to measure forces (drag/lift) in AIM of Fluent ?ÂThanks for your help !
