SubscriberDear Support Team, Dear Users,
Â
Aiming at empowering engineers and designers, two pieces of software are currently  mainstream, Ansys Discovery Live and Altair SimSolid.
Has there any benchmarking been performed to give a clear status of pros and cons for each of these products ? My field of interest is mechanical design.
From what I have found out so far, Altair SimSolid seems to be more oriented towards mechanical design than Ansys DL : Simsolid features more loadings, contact conditions, assembly elements, non-linear analyses,... .
On the other hand, Ansys DL allows a direct evaluation of a geometry alteration.
Am I right in thinking that Ansys DL is dedicated to "rough" mechanical pre-design while Altair Simsolid provides a thinner approach at the cost of a slightly slower process ?
Â
Looking forward to reading your feedback,

Your assessment is generally accurate. Discovery Live is a tool intended for rapid exploration of conceptual designs. It allows you to make changes on the fly and see the results much faster than a "traditional" simulation solver. Discovery Live is not intended for design validation.
You can find information on verification and benchmarking compared to other ANSYS solvers here: Discovery Verification and Benchmark Cases
