We have an exciting announcement about badges coming in May 2025. Until then, we will temporarily stop issuing new badges for course completions and certifications. However, all completions will be recorded and fulfilled after May 2025.

An unknown error

      Dear all,

      Could you please help me to identify the error in the attached project?

      It says 'An unknown error occurred during solution.  Check the Solver Output on the Solution Information object for possible causes'.

      I couldn't find the error.

      Thanks!

      ANSYS employees are not allowed to download files from the forum (even if you succeed to upload them).

      What error do you see in the Solver output? Have you constrained your model properly? Which analysis are you doing?

      Please reply in detail and upload images inline if required.

      Hi, Aniket,

      Thank you for your reply.

      I am testing these conditions:

      1. Cylindrical sample constrained laterally;

      2. It has a central hole;

      3. Axial stress of 6 MPa is applied to the top of the sample;

      4. Sample is a weak sandstone.

      This is my geometry and constraints:

      1. Fixed support to the bottom of the sample;

      2. Displacement support to the circumference (x - free, y - 0, z - 0);

      3. Apply 0.1 MPa pressure to the inner cylindrical surface;

      4. Apply 6 MPa axial stress to the top surface.

      Material properties are as follow:

      In the output file I could only find the following:

      REASON FOR TERMINATION. . . . . . . . . .ERROR IN ELEMENT FORMULATION

      These are the messages:

      An unknown error occurred during solution.  Check the Solver Output on the Solution Information object for possible causes.Project>Model>Static Structural>Solution

      The unconverged solution (identified as Substep 999999) is output for analysis debug purposes. Results at this time should not be used for any other purpose.Project>Model>Static Structural>Solution

      The database will be opened in read-only mode.

      Your license configuration does not allow that operation.

      My ultimate goal is to see gradient plastic strains around a hole.

      Thank you!

      For error in element formulation please check:

      /forum/forums/topic/error-in-element-formulation-2/

      I see that you have a research license and not the student license but I am not sure why you are seeing: "Your license configuration does not allow that operation. "

      Are you pointing to the correct license?
