SubscriberDoes Ansys or others have any HFSS models of air core inductors that have been validated in simulation? I am interested in simulating the performance (inductance and quality factor) of a surface mount Coilcraft inductor as the properties of the PCB dielectric material below it are changed.Â
I built one of the coils using datasheet dimensions, however, the simulated L and Q do not match. I have attached an image of what the model looks like. Something is wrong in either the model or simulation setup, so I would like to simulate an already verified design if available.

Ansys EmployeeHello Tyler,
I am sorry I don't have an exact answer to your query but I can guide you to some related documentation/material which may help you to get the solution to your problem.
- There is one Getting Started Guide pdf on the topic 'HFSS Spiral Inductor' that comes with the installation of AEDT. You can find the file by navigating to the Help > HFSS Getting Started Guides > HFSS Spiral Inductor. This may help you in setting the expressions for output variables to calculate the Inductance and Quality factor.
- In the component libraries, there is one spiral inductor design similar to what you pasted here. This is created as a 3D component file and comes with the installation of AEDT. You can make the component library visible by navigating to View > Component Libraries. In this library, expand HFSS Components > Surface Mount Devices and choose Inductor SMD. Please note that this is just a geometry of the inductor and you need to assign boundaries, excitations, analysis setup, etc to perform the simulation.
I hope this will help you to resolve your problem.
Thank you.
Best regards
Anchal

SubscriberHi. Could you make the inductor?
