SubscriberI have seen in other solvers where researchers have been able to set up solvers that uses a bulk flow that follows the body of interest's overset grid, but still acts as a stationary fluid in comparisson to the body's motion. An image of this setup is included from “An Overset Grid Motion Driver for Resolving Entry Vehicle CFD Simulations with Large Changes in Wake Orientation”, Zachary J. Ernst,AIAA SciTech, 2024. My question is that, is this possible in the current version of Fluent? The reason why is that this is a very efficient technique that saves on cell count by not having to have a constantly active mesh for the whole experimental volume.

Ansys EmployeeHello Hunter,
You can set up two component grids for the nearbody and wake to move together through a coarser background mesh, but you will still need to solve for this background mesh.
