A nheptane+ammonia+hydrogen engine simulation in ANSYS FORTE

      Hello, everyone!
      I've recently been working on a diesel/ammonia-fueled internal combustion engine, and when I tried to add hydrogen to the gas mixture, the fuel-air mixture in the engine cylinders went out momentarily after ignition. This may be normal when it happens, but FORTE stopped the calculations straight away. Under normal circumstances, the piston will continue to run on with inertia, so I'm asking if there is a way to get FORTE to continue to run the calculations with the flame in the cylinder quenched?

      Hi Lo: Is it possible that the final crank angle has been reached? What is the final crank angle set for this simulation? Thanks, Judy

        Hi judy!

        Thanks for your reply!

        The crank angle for simulation i've set from -165 to 125. This interval is the time from the intake valve closing to the exhaust valve opening. But the calculation stopped at 5 grad. And i I tried different gas ratios, the calculation can only be completed when the proportion of hydrogen is less than 4%.When it is higher than 4%, after the calculation reaches the piston TDC, it will display: the flame in the cylinder is completely extinguished, and then the software stops calculation. Then the calculation failure is displayed in the HUD.

        I want to try, even if the flame goes out, the piston will continue to run due to inertia. Is there any way to complete the calculation without considering the combustion in the cylinder?

        HI Lo;

        kindly let me know how you have done the simulation of using hydrogen blend fuel in ansys forte

      Hi Lo:

      Does the calculation actually fail  due to numerical issues? The extinction may be causing a solver failure. If the calculation is failing for numerical reasons, then there will be no way to continue it.

      Best Regards,

      Judy
