We have an exciting announcement about badges coming in May 2025. Until then, we will temporarily stop issuing new badges for course completions and certifications. However, all completions will be recorded and fulfilled after May 2025.

3-d simulation of sandwich panels vs layered sections approach.

In the layered section approach,I am modelling [ 0/45/-45/90/honeycomb/90/-45/45/0 ]

For 3-d simulation, I am modelling honeycomb using equivalent plate theory ( properties of honeycomb same as used in above simulation )and CFRP skins as layered sections.

Bonded contact between the equivalent plate and layered sections.

I am getting a difference of more than 25 percent between these simulations in modal analysis.

It is a cantilevered plate BC.

what is the kind of contact and Ansys version used ?

      Hi Tammay,

there are multiple potential root causes which we cannot pin point without haveing more information about your model. As commented already, contact formulation might be one of them. Furthermore you might face mesh discretisation sensitivities, incorrect shell element offset for the hybrid model (solid and shell). However, it seems this question isn't directly related to the training materials usage and therefor I'd like to encourage you to file a request through our Technical Support. This way you can also share your model which we can review then.

      Regards

      Thomas
