2D beam element – stiffness matrix

      Hello,

I would like to model a 2D beam element with 3 DOF in each node (horizontal and vertical displacement and rotation). My model consists of 1 element and 2 nodes.

Ansys seems to model the beam element in 3D with 6 DOF in each node as seen by the 12by12 stiffness matrix as attached (Ansys stiffness matrix).

As per the guidelines, we are not allowed to download any files, can you upload the images by clicking on the image option rather than attaching the files?

Also in order to perform a 2D analysis, select geometry, go to properties tab>advanced geometry options>analysis type, change it to 2D.

      Regards
      Surya

      Hi Surya
Is it possible to obtain a stiffness matrix from Ansys (12by12) as the 6by6?

Performing a 2D analysis will help you obtain the 6X6 stiffness matrix. The steps on how to perform them is mentioned in the previous comment.

      Thanks Surya
