Thank you for the reply. Yes saving the SPHout data would work, but i'm looking at an interfacial mixing problem where the region i'm interested in is stochastic and hard to predict which particles to save data on which is why I was trying to use the fringe plot histories instead.

 

I'm saving a lot of history variables and I assumed HYDRO = 2 would append the history variables at the end, but actually it appears it appended them somewhere in the middle. When I went through the history variables 1 by 1 I was able to find the density history variable and I could save the elemental density history for any particle that way. In my case it ended up being history variable 17 out of the 28 I have saved.
