The species concentration shouldn't matter on the outlet, it's working out how to get the liquid out of the inlet that's the problem. Multiphase and boundaries can get messy as the "other" phase can block the boundary. 

As an aside, how are you planning on mimicking the surface contact area of the bed packing for the mass transfer?
