I have looked at the suggested discussion, but unfortunately this does not answer my question. Mr. Doyle's answer refers to the simulation of the LPBF method (temperature simulation layer by layer). However, in the DED process the temperature simulation is done along the tool path, the only question is whether this is sufficiently accurate to check the build strategy. 
Perhaps I will ask the question again in a different way: 
Which heat source is used in the DED process simulation?
Are the individual element clusters "only" added with the previously defined process temperature and therefore only have an influence on the underlying layers through the heat transfer?
Or is a heat source (e.g. Goldak double ellipsoid) used in the background to take into account the effect of the welding process on the underlying layers? - If not, could such a heat source be integrated into the DED simulation?
