If you are getting multiple projections, that is the default. It projects to everything that it can. You have to use the other toolbuttons in the Project operation. Use the "Select Target Faces" toolbutton (red arrow below) to select the intended face. When I do this, sometimes the results are not exactly as expected unless I also select the same face for the "Select Direction" toolbutton (blue arrow below):
