SubscriberI am not sure if this is the most suited forum to open this discussion under. However, I created a simple spring geometry in solidworks and saved it as an .igs file, when I try to import that file in Ansys Mechanical APDL, I end up with this distorted ugly geometry where the volume creation fails. Any pointers on how to avoid such problem?
(Attached are the 3D model and screenshot of distorted geometry)

SubscribernDon't use IGES to move solid geometry. Use Parasolid.nFebruary 23, 2021 at 7:43 pmAhmedzeid

SubscriberHi Peter,nnI have a similar problem because I want to export the IGES file from Mimics software to Workbench but it's not possible. What do you suggest? nThanksnAmin nFebruary 26, 2021 at 3:11 ampeteroznewman
SubscriberTry Mechanical instead of APDL.nWhat file formats does Mimics support?nFebruary 26, 2021 at 12:11 pmramgopisetti
SubscriberIt seems, that Mimics can output .*stl file, if so you can use the Spaceclaim and clean the geomentry and maybe you should try patch independent method( Cartiesian mesh) to analyse the parts.nCheers, nRamnFebruary 26, 2021 at 7:45 pmAhmedzeid
SubscriberI am afraid that's not an option in my case. Isn't there any solution for the parasolid format in APDL? Or a probable cause even that I can look into?nFebruary 27, 2021 at 2:31 ampeteroznewman
SubscribernI expect APDL can open a Parasolid file. Check the Help file. I don't use APDL interface.nViewing 7 reply threads- The topic ‘Distorted IGES geometry’ is closed to new replies.
