I am trying to assess if failure has occurred in my model by plotting Total Equivalent Strain in post-processing. The problem is that the results only provide data for the shell elements (module floors) shown in the first snippet. This is despite there be strain in the beams and columns as evidenced by the total deformation shown in the second snippet.

SubscriberHi ArraynThanks very much for your assistance. nRegarding scoping the strain results, it does not allow me to change either the scoping method or geometry.nnNo i did not have beam section results selected in my original post. I have now selected it but it has not changed the output, however i note the following warning as shown in snippet below, Beam section/strain results are reported in the Solution Coordinate System. I have reviewed the Solution Coordinate System in the user guide but unfortunately i am none the wiser to what is happening.nAny advice would be much appreciatedn

SubscriberI still have been unable to resolve this problem. As you can see below the equivalent elastic strain is not provided in my beam elements, and beam section results are available as shown in the second screen shot. I need to know what the strain is in my beam elements?.Please note the concrete floor slabs are modelled as surfaces, model type=shell, and the line elements are beams, model type =beam, see the final 2 screenshots. nAny assistance wouls be great, thanks.nnn

SubscriberHi,I note that the warnings have changed from those in the snippets shown above, they now state that .....strains are not currently supported for beam and pipe elements. Snippets shown below for both equivalent elastic strain (von-mises) and total strain.nnI am not sure why the warning changed, the only significant change i have made is upgrading to ANSYS 2021 R1. I would appreciate some assistance with this matter as i am not making any progress with this since initially raising it in February. nArray Array Array Array ArrayÂ

Ansys EmployeeThe message possible changed because of the release change (to 2021 R1)- so it was added possible in the new/current release to point out and make the user aware that we do not have/support equivalent strains for beam and pipe elements (as it says not currently supported for beam and line elements, hence we can not plot them).nnHope this helps.nnEriknApril 16, 2021 at 12:57 pmMickMack

I have included 4 queries below if you could help me further.nn1.Is there alternative strain parameters available that is supported?n2.I am using BEAM188 is there an alternative beam that i can use to get equivalent strain?nnIn the image above in ANSYS2020 it states that Beam section strain/stress results are reported in the Solution coordinate system. Therefore my understanding was that equivalent strain was supported for the beam sections.nn3.If i go back to ANSYS2020 will i be able to get equivalent strain results? n4.How do i access the reported results in the coordinate sysytemn

Ansys EmployeeIf you go to the results summary worksheet (right click on Solution say (C6) and choose worksheet result summary) we can see some strain results (total strain say principal and so on) -try to use those on the beams as user defined results.n I do not think so (we have beam189 which just a higehr order), but perhaps someone else can confirmn Again I do not think so, but perhaps someone else can confirm. In a pure beam model we do not get even these options they are greyed for equivalent strains (can only have maximum principal,...).nThe strains and stresses are cross section results so they belong to there, nnHope this helpsnnEriknApril 16, 2021 at 2:33 pmMickMack
