Transient Structural Analysis of Deep groove ball bearings in ANSYS Workbench 18.0

      Hi everyone,

I want to solve the following problem with ANSYS.

Problem Statement: Vibration Analysis of 6309 Deep groove ball bearing.

Geometry: I have made a CAD model in Solid Edge V10. I made the geometry with a cage for the balls, but the skewness with the cage and pins was on the higher side. I suppressed the cage and pins and re-meshed it, applying face meshing to outer and inner races, also applied face sizing of 1mm size to balls and inner race.

Boundary conditions: Outer race fixed, inner race rotating. Ball has revolute joint

      Solver: ANSYS Transient structural

I have followed the following youtube video:

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECxH7hklCJA&t=4s&ab_channel=Prof.PrasadKulkarni

I have attached the snip files for reference.

Issue: Deformation is huge beyond permissible limits.

I would be grateful for any help.

nThe YouTube video shows two things NOT to do when analyzing ball bearings.n#1. The model uses one Revolute Joint to hold all the balls to ground and another Revolute to hold the inner race to ground. That means the balls don't transfer the load between the inner and outer races, nor is there any radial load applied.n#2. Large Deflection was turned off! The results in the video show deformations of 5 m, which is the expected result when large rotations are applied to objects with this setting.nDon't follow that video. If you have a free choice in what to analyze, because it is a school project, or you just want to learn ANSYS, don't choose ball bearing vibrations. That is a very difficult model to build and extract meaningful engineering results.n

Respected peteroznewman,nI do not have a free choice in what to analyze.nMy Objective is to relate vibration data to Acoustic data and predict noise emitted by high-speed ball bearings.nMy purpose was extracting displacements, velocity data from a transient model. nI have velocity and acceleration data from simulations in Matlab. Can I input this data for getting sound pressure level emitted by ball bearings as the analytical equation for the same is not available (as per my knowledge, the equations (19) in Zhang, Q., Yang, J., & An, Q. (2018). Noise Calculation Method for Deep Groove Ball Bearing with Considering Raceway Surface Waviness and Roller Size Error. Frontiers in Mechanical Engineering, 4(October), 1–15. https://doi.org/10.3389/fmech.2018.00013) is dimensionally inconsistent.nI have tried Modal Analysis--> Harmonic response with the ACT plugin in ANSYS 18.0. Attached in the archive my project. nnI know this is a difficult task to model. Any help in this regard would be highly appreciated.nn
