Has anyone done simulation of snow fall or drift in ANSYS fluent?

Hello, I am new to ansys fluent, let alone multiphase flow is difficult. I am trying to consider air and snow as a multiphase flow(mixture model), I want to define every condition but I have limited knowledge in ANSYS fluent as well as the User Defined Functions. I got few helps from guides and youtube but right now reaching nowhere. If anyone can help me to accurately simulate the snowdrift accumulation. It would be very helpful. Thankyou.n

in answer to the question, yes we have. Snow drifts and sand dunes. nRead the notes on eulerian multiphase, and have a very careful look on how you'd apply that. n

thank you for the reply... My professor wants me to use mixture model, is it possible? I have read about the multiphase flow, Mixture, VOF as well as Eulerian Multiphase. I know the common difference. Should I consider steady or unsteady state simulation?n

Mixture will work, and that's how the snow drifts were done by the Swedes in the early 00s. There was an article published in Fluent News (it's pre-Ansys work) but I don't have a copy and it's unlikely to be on the Ansys website because of it's age. nYou may want to look up some of the work by Bagnold from the 1930s & 40s on sand movement: it's much the same phenomena, just warmer. n

Mixture Model can be used with the default slip velocity or an adjusted one modeling snow fall speed. Alternative is to use DPM. n

hello mate!! I am also trying to solve almost same problem. It would be better if we could have some discussion on the topic.nnThanks in advance.n

thank you for the reply... I got a little help from my supervisor... I applied a udf code and did a steady simulation. Now, I want to try dynamic mesh for erosion and deposition.n

Hi, I'm working on a similar problem, the accumulation of snow on surfaces. It would be great if you could throw some light on the general outline of how you proceeded to generate meaningful results

      Great!n

Excellent. Remember with moving mesh you can't add or remove surfaces (ie add or remove topology) so you will need to be a bit careful with the initial set up. n
