Dead is void (effectively) where as solid is meshed and part of the model & solution. nFor info, dead was originally the designation for non-fluid cells when we had full cartesian meshes and needed to fit the geometry into a cuboid (last needed in Fluent 4). Those cells were included in the cell count, but didn't use much RAM. The term was retained for voids in Fluent Meshing. n

Let's say I extract a flow volume for an internal flow problem and solve it. In the post-processing section, I want to show the external geometry from which I extracted the flow volume as a transparent solid model. how can I do that ? I can't see this geometry in the post processing section because I didn't include this geometry in the analysis (because I didn't create a mesh) while I was setting up the analysis.

In Fluent you can append mesh files, so it may be easiest to put a mesh onto the casing and read it into the solved model.
