should i maximize face quality limit ? 0.7 is better than 0.4 ?

does face quality limit refers to elements quality or orthogonal quality ?

Should i minimize collapse skewness limit ? 0.4 is better than 0.7 ?

It is face skewness. nPlease check help document for skewness definitions. Link already given in another post. nPlease do not reduce below 0.5. It may distort your surface mesh. nIt will collapse the faces with skewness above 0.5 nRegards,nKeyurnGuidelines for Posting on Ansys Learning ForumnHow to access ANSYS help linksnn

i didnt understand what face quality limit refers to ? does face quality refer to element quality ? or refer to skewness ?

For face quality, it refers to skewness. nFace quality limit : Fluent Meshing will try to improve the faces with skewness more than given in Face Quality Limit. n

Thanks alot for your generous answer nso is there a problem for minimizing face quality limit value to 0.2 ? how to check if it distort surface mesh ?ni think quality improvement collapse skewness limit should be more than 0.7 or more ? so that we can avoid bad skewness faces ? , i think it acts like upper limit value for skewness so no cell will have skewness more than that value ndoes collapsing mesh change geometry ? thats the tradeoff i thinknn

Please use default values for surface mesh improvement. nIf you collapse more, it wlll distort your surface mesh.

For running calculation it is not required to reduce face quality to 0.2. nDepending on your geometry, if you try to collapse faces till 0.2, it may distort your geometry. You can see it by displaying and inspecting geometry. nPlease improve surface mesh till 0.7 only. That means you will not have any surface mesh with skewness above 0.7. This should be good enough. nPlease see help manual for more details about these commands. nnRegards,nKeyurnGuidelines for Posting on Ansys Learning ForumnHow to access ANSYS help linksnn

thank u alot for your generous answernso what i understand is that collapse limit skewness shouldnt be less than 0.7 as it may distort geometry nbut face quality limit i think if i minimize it as possible will not cause any problem , right ?n

Face collpase limit should be more than 0.5. nPlease check surface mesh skewness. If it is 0.5 then it should be good enough to generate volume mesh. nPlease see help manual for more details about these commands. nn

thanks for your answer , i just wanna make sure for face quality limit minimizing that number wont cause problem keeping face collapse limit more than 0.5 right ?n

Why do you want to change default values?nIt depends on geometry and the location where these faces above 0.5 are. nPractically I do not change default values for surface mesh improvement. nCreate a small box. Create surface mesh for the same. Then use collapse command to see visually how it works. This will help you. nPlease see help manual for more details about these commands. nRegards,nKeyurnGuidelines for Posting on Ansys Learning ForumnHow to access ANSYS help linksnn
