AdministratorMoved - no need to re-post your question. nPlease add some screenshots to help us understand how you are doing the mesh refinement. nThank you.nKarthiknAugust 31, 2020 at 8:33 pmSeptember 1, 2020 at 4:37 pmSurya Deb
Ansys EmployeeHello, nDid you try to set a reasonable value for the Minimum Edge Length for your Adaption Criterion? With an edge length set to 0, CFX might be over adapting the edges.nYou also might want to use the Variation*Edge Length option for the Adaption. This will generally ensure that CFX adapts the longer edges more than shorter edges for similar variations of solution variables. So it automatically puts a check on over refinement.nAlso make sure that your initial mesh quality is good and does not have any high aspect ratios or badly skewed elements. Mesh adaption on such elements can fail as well. nI hope this helps.nRegards,nSuryanSeptember 1, 2020 at 7:25 pmtyw7
Subscriber@sdeb what should I put as the edge length? It's a fairly large model with a width of 74m and a length of around 50m.nnWould create a influence box in the wake region work?nSeptember 2, 2020 at 5:41 pmSurya Deb
Ansys EmployeeHello, nIt depends on how much refinement you actually want in your model. nThe minimum edge length is like a factor that prevents refinement below that value.nIn order to avoid too many refinement steps and too large of a mesh count, i would recommend starting with a reasonable value of MEL. nThis is just to test if the refinement is working as it should. You can then progressively test the MEL criteria.nRegards,nSuryanViewing 7 reply threads- The topic ‘Ansys automatic refinement fails’ is closed to new replies.
