Error when generating mesh?

Error when generating mesh: The mesh generation did not complete due to poor quality elements or incorrect input. Please try meshing with another mesh method or different mesh options.

Is there anything I can do? I'm unsure if the part to be meshed (shown in the image attached) is too complicated for the student version, or that my parameters for general meshing is wrong.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      Thank you!

@yappyap,nIt looks like you have a thin-walled solid. nIs there just one face on the outside, and one face on the inside and then edge faces?nIf so, open the geometry in SpaceClaim, click on the outside face, Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V to copy and paste a surface.nThen delete the solid. There is an alternate workflow for Midsurface that works if the wall is perfectly uniform.nBring this surface body into Mechanical and it should mesh without a problem.nAssign the thickness of the body to the surface as a property in Mechanical.n

@peteroznewman nThank you for your response. nI wanted to do a surface mesh as well. However, this entire model is one solid body. This CAD file has been passed down by someone from my department and it does not include any of the modelling steps in model tree. My friend and I have been trying to extract the surface for hours using different CAD programmes but to no avail.nAre there any more tips for us?nThanks (:n

Hi @subhamdas ,nThank you for your response.nI went down to my lab to use the full version. Unfortunately, another issue came up. I'm no longer able to import the model into geometry.nError: Unable to attach file to geometry.nNot sure why either!!!!!!!n

You don't need the full version, you just need to follow the instructions I gave above and I repeat below with more detail.nOpen the CAD file in SpaceClaim.nSelect the outside face by clicking on it; it will highlight in orange.nOn the keyboard, type Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V to copy the face and create a surface.nIn the Structure Outline window on the left, click on the Solid and hit the Delete key on the keyboard.nFile Save. It's that simple.nUse a Static Structural analysis system. Import the SpaceClaim file in the Geometry cell and you will be able to mesh that surface.n
