Meshing issues an error/warning message: One or more objects may have lost some scoping attachments

Meshing issues an error/warning message:  One or more objects may have lost some scoping attachments during the geometry update.  What does this warning mean and how can I address it?

Usually, it means that some mesh controls - like the controls that set the surfaces for inflation - may not be applying to the same surfaces as before.   It is a note that the associations for mesh controls should be reviewed. (Usually, some surfaces get dropped because their internal nomenclature has changed.)

What Can I do to avoid it?

You can try and turn associativity on on your model and see if that helps. The option can be found on workbench page, right click on geometry> Properties> Advance Properties> Compare Parts on Update> Associatively

Can I make this option default so that I don't have to change it everytime I create a new geometry? Also are there any downsides of making it default?

      Yes. change it as follows:
      Workbench>Tools>Options>Geometry Import> Compare Parts on Update> Associatively

Downside of this would be more import times as compared to default option where this is off.
